World Abilitysport plays a key role in the development of Para sports around the world. Part of that is supporting new countries to build their athlete programmes by offering expertise and guidance and taking part in World and Youth Games.
World Abilitysport recognises that not all countries or national sport organisations have the same resources.
Each level is subject to ratification by the World Abilitysport Governing Board and has individual terms and conditions attached.
The membership year runs from 1 January – 31 December.

Full member
This is the highest level of membership available within World Abilitysport. It is reserved for National Paralympic Committees and/or national organisations representing athletes with physical impairments. Full membership entitles members to all benefits including full voting rights and the ability to put forward motions at the General Assembly, nominations to the World Abilitysport Governing Board and entry for athletes into World Abilitysport competitions subject to the requirements of individual events. Full fees apply to these members according to a tiered system.
Secondary member
Secondary members can attend the General Assembly, but only one delegate may be present and they cannot propose motions. They can send athletes to World Abilitysport competitions on the same terms as full members. Membership fees are fixed and apply to all secondary members. Organisations such as a national sport body or impairment specific groups can become secondary members.
Developing member
Developing Members can enter athletes to World Abilitysport competitions and are subject to the same requirements as full and secondary members.
Whilst being a developing member is not the same as full World Abilitysport membership, the programme is designed to be the first step towards it.
